77th FWSA Convention Highlights:
The 77th Convention, hosted by Sierra Council, was held the first weekend, June 2009 at the Peppermill in Reno, NV. The convention was again a huge success with over 200 delegates attending from all of the Western States. Inskiers had 4 delegates - Cathy Wilson, Inskier President; Lisa Burgess, Inskier Race Director, Karen Albrecht, Inskier Treasurer and Craig Faitel, Inskier member and Singles League Race Director.
The convention started off with a Silent Auction on Friday night. Over $90,000 worth of trips and other items were donated by many of the FWSA Industry Partners. Following the Auction, Dennis Heffley, President of BAC, hosted a party for BAC club delegates and industry reps in his suite at the Peppermill. Over 70 people attended. It was a great way to start the weekend.
On Saturday, the events were kicked off by announcing the communications awards - our Inskiers Web Site won first place in the Class A division for best Club Web-Site! During the day, events included a travel expo, where delegates could learn more indepth information about many of our industry partners; education sessions, including one on Insurance, California Seller of Travel, and Treasury Tips and another on Travel Tips. Later on we were privileged to hear about the Woman's Ski Jumping Team, who are currently fighting against many odds to get their sport included in the 2010 Winter Olympics. The day wrapped up with Council Caucuses, where delegates were priviledged to meet the men and women running for FWSA office. The evening concluded with a dinner/dance hosted by Sierra Council. The theme was Discovering Sierra Silver.
Sunday, the final day of the convention, consisted of a Business Meeting, were three resolutions to the FWSA bylaws were approved. In addition, officer elections were held. Randy Lew was again elected FWSA President. Congratulations to Randy and the new slate of FWSA officers. Please go to the www.fwsa.org web-site to view the official convention results.
